Take It EASY (Empowerment And Self-Esteem for Youth) is a program that addresses the complex issues facing young people - especially girls in grades 5 and 6.

Take It EASY is a Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada national program.  National programs assist to build the capacity for future success of children, and youth by:

- tackling youth issues that are at the heart of every community;
- believing in the potential of Canadian children and youth;
- making our communities better places to live and grow up.

The objective of Take It Easy is to create strategies to help foster the self-esteem and confidence of preteen Club members and enable them to make more informed decisions about the challenges they face in life.

There will be three sessions during the 2019-20 school year:

  • Fall Session - St. John Paul School
  • Winter Session - Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes
  • Spring Session - TBD

The candidates for the school groups will be selected by the school staff.

The WINTER SESSION (Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes) will be for girls only, in grades 4, 5 and 6. Date: TBD. Sessions will be cancelled if a snow day is called. Includes participation in a Fun Night date TBD. Information to follow once the session begins.


  •  Week 1: Self-Esteem
  • Week 2: Body Image
  • Week 3: Gender Stereotypes
  • Week 4: Healthy Relationships
  • Week 5: Bullying
  • Week 6: Internet Safety
  • Week 7: Puberty, Health and Hygiene
  • Week 8: Fun Night!

Ongoing skills and themes throughout the session are leadership; conflict resolution and problem-solving; respect; volunteerism and fundraising; and social skills.

There is no cost to members for this program and a $3.00 daily drop-in fee/night for non-members.

This program is set up in a group atmosphere. The content of this program is delivered through discussion and activities. Certain topic material can be sensitive to some participants. Age-appropriate information will be delivered to the program participants.
