Leadership for Life is composed of three unique leadership programs for youth ages 12- 18 years of age. The programs consist of:
The L.E.A.P. program is perfect for youth who want to learn the in's and out's of working with children. They will learn leadership skills and learn how to plan fun and engaging activities. This is a volunteer position 1-2 days a week working in the after-school programs.
The Keystone Youth Council is made up of youth representing the high schools in Kawartha Lakes. This group meets to discuss and address current issues among youth in our community through education, advocacy, volunteerism, and peer support.
The L.I.T. (Leader In Training) Program provides youth ages 14-17 with the opportunity to volunteer in summer camps at The Boys and Girls Club. The program engages youth in leadership development, teaches them employable skills, opens the door for future job opportunities, and offers a wide variety of training and workshops.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes believes that through genuine youth engagement youth can gain skills and knowledge to be leaders in their community and to their peers. It is the belief of the Boys & Girls Club that each youth can become a leader in their own unique way.
The Boys & Girls Club movement has the goal of supporting youth to become adults that:
• Are ensuring that they are managing their health and well-being.
• Have positive and caring relationships.
• Attain educational goals and have the ability to achieve dreams.
• Are self-sufficient and independent.
• Are meaningfully participating in their community and civil society.
Our leadership programs include training opportunities, academic/post-secondary support, and connection to community and employment resources. Additionally, program participants will automatically qualify for an annual scholarship.
